Glycolic Peel - Before & After 6 Treatments
How does the Glycloic Acid Peel work?
When the glycolic acid compund is applied topically it has several immediate effects on the skin. These include thinning the top layer of skin by loosening the bonds that hold dead skin cells together and also increasing the production of new collagen, elastin and other proteins. This results in smoother, younger looking skin.
How is the Glycolic Acid Peel performed?
The Medical Aestheticians at Eastbluff Medical Aesthetics Center are very experienced with Chemical Peels and perform then right here at the center. The process involves applying a highly concentrated glycolic acid preparation to the face with a swab for a few minutes and then thoroughly removing it with a solution of water and baking soda to neutralize the acid. There is only minimal stinging associated occaisionally associated with the procedure.
What can I expect after the Glycolic Peel is performed?
Your skin may turn pink intially, but will return to normal within 1-2 days. The peels can be repeated at one to three week intervals. Between four to six peels is optimal for typical desired results. After four to six peels you will notice a brighter, less dull and uniform complexion. Fine lines and wrinkles will be softened, abnormal pigmentation will be reduced and your skin will have a more lustrous and translucent quality.
Are there any adverse side effects with this treatment?
Most patients experience no adverse side effects, though rare side effects may include mild stinging, mild swelling, redness, mild scabbing or mild peeling, all of which are temporary and last only a few days. These side effects can be relieved by avoiding scrubs and topical medications for a few days, and also by applying cool compresses and moisturizers. It's important that you talk with your Medical Aesthetician about the possibility of using a glycolic acid lotion or Retin-A to precondition your skin and reduce the chances of any adverse side effects.
