Frequently Asked Questions

How Long Does Treatment With Restylane® Last?
Restylane® instantly adds volume to help restore youthful contours, so you’ll see results immediately following your treatment and there is little to no downtime. In a clinical study of laugh lines (nasolabial folds), at least 95% of patients treated with Restylane® continued to see results for up to 18 months after initial treatment when patients returned for a follow-up treatment at 4.5 or nine months.

How Much Restylane® Injectable Gel Will I Need For Full Correction?
Due to the individual needs of each patient, it is important to discuss your full correction with your healthcare professional. However, in a clinical study where patients received full correction for their nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth) during initial treatment with Restylane®, the average volume was 2 to 3 mL per patient.

Are There Any Reasons Why I Should Not Be Treated With Restylane®?
Restylane® should not be used by people with previous bad allergies, particularly to certain microorganisms known as gram-positive bacteria, or by people with previous bad allergies to drugs who have required in-hospital treatment. These products should not be used by people with bleeding disorders. Injections should not be made anywhere except the skin or just under the skin. Restylane-L should not be used by people with a known allergy to lidocaine. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 18 years, you should not use Restylane.

What Should I Tell My Healthcare Professional Before Having a Treatment With Restylane®?
You should tell your healthcare professional if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores. He or she may prescribe a medication to minimize recurrence. You should also tell him or her if you have recently used aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John’s wort, or high doses of vitamin E supplements. These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site. To avoid bruising and bleeding, you should not use Restylane if you have recently used drugs that thin your blood or prevent clotting.

Are There Any Side Effects?
After your treatment, you may have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, and tenderness. This will normally last less than seven days.
